We moved my sister in to her apartment today. It was a struggle because she was at the very top of the building and we had to move tables, beds, dressers, and sofas.
Afterwards we went to Target to get a few more things for her apartment. We also went to TJ Max to get odds and ends. We also went to eat at Subway because we hadn't eaten all day and were really hungry. Then we went home.

Tomorrow we are going to explore downtown Durham, where Duke is located, and we are going to look around the campus as well. We fly out on Saturday so we have a day and a half to look around the city. I am also planning on cutting my hair tomorrow.
After tomorrow we will take a train to Charlotte where we will fly out. The train ride is only 2 hours and the flight is only 2 hours as well. I'll say bye to my sister for a whole year tomorrow which won't be that weird because she's travelled all over the place so I won't really miss her. She's been to South Africa, Jamaica, Haiti, Ireland, France, Peru, Costa Rica, Spain, Tanzania, Canada, Iceland, and of course the U.S and she speaks French, English, and Spanish fluently. Today is exactly one whole week before I leave which is mind boggling. It seems like yesterday when I went to my first meeting at Ancilla College and got interviewed on why we wanted to go. That was the same day I met with all the other outbound students and little did I know that I'd become really good friends with most of them. I also remember meeting the inbounds for the first time and thinking they were so awesome, and now I am going to be an inbound. Crazy stuff.
Today we made the drive down to North Carolina which took a whopping 14 hours to complete. We only stopped around 4 times the whole way down and we went straight through the day without stopping anywhere.
We got there around 9:30 and then we went to Target to get things for my sister's apartment. We only unloaded the mattresses from the U-Haul truck and are going to move the rest in tomorrow. The ride down was the worst. The front seats were so cramped and we couldn't move without bumping one another. We drank a whole lot of coffee on the way down. I know this may sound bad, but I don't think that I will be missing my family a lot for the first couple of months. I have 5 siblings and we just moved houses so you can imagine the chaos around those few weeks.
I can't wait to meet my host family, they seem really nice and I know that I am going to have a blast with them. Today was my host mom's birthday, earlier this year she showed me that she was painting my room in preparation for me and she is really kind It is really good that I am close with the other outbounds in my district because before I even go, they can already tell me a little about how they are in their host country. Also, if I ever get really sad or homesick, I can talk to them because they are exchange students too so they will know what it is like. Me and my family went out to eat at a restaurant that is really close to our family. My parents went there a lot and we're good friends with the owners.
After that, we got home and there was a package from Tzell, the travel agency. I haven't gotten a chance to open it yet so I am not sure what the contents are. It's crazy that I am going to be saying goodbye to my family for a whole year. I already said goodbye to my older sister, but it didn't feel like I was saying goodbye for a year. Today me and my family packed up my sister's U-Haul truck and we are going to travel to Durham, North Carolina. After we unpack all of her stuff me and my dad will take a train to Charlotte, North Carolina and will then fly out of the airport there.
It's a 12 hour drive there and it will be very tight because there is only three seats. To be honest it is going to be hell. At least I will get to experience flying so I'm more prepared Today my school started and that was pretty sad because all my friends will be going throughout their daily lives and won't be with me. I hope they don't forget about me during the exchange because that would suck.
Also, since I have one more year of high school when I get back, I am really afraid that I will outgrow my friends and become more mature than them. I really don't want this to happen because these are my freaking boys and I don't wanna lose them. Right now at my house, all my clothes are in boxes scattered throughout the house. This is a bit of a problem seeing as I leave in 9 days. Also once I do begin to pack, which I need to start, it will be difficult to even lay out all my stuff.
I am so unprepared packing wise because I haven't had any help to get what I need. This is because my parents have been busy packing all my other siblings and the house. At this point I am basically an after though, so I am pretty screwed Today I helped move the rest of the house into my new house. That means that everything is finally out of the house and the people who bought it are moving in.
Tomorrow me and my dad will be filling up a U-Haul truck with all her belongings and stuff. We drive down on early Thursday morning. At the moment we have only just moved into our house and it is not even done being renovated. There is no kitchen, and the plumbing only half works so I won't be missing living like this. For the most part I am so excited to leave and am ready to get going, however the biggest thing that I am nervous about is flying. I am a pretty bad flyer because I have only been on a plane once when I was around three years old.
I am not worried so much about the actual flying part, but mostly about the layovers and going through customs and stuff like that. I am a pretty deep sleeper so I do not want to sleep in the airports or I will probably miss my flight! Also, I am to be especially anxious when I take the bus from one airport to another in Buenos Aires because that will be the first time I am in Argentina and on top of that i don't know any Spanish. I know it will all work out well in the end so I am not really sweating it that much. I leave in 10 days so I am really stoked about it. I do have to move my other sister down into Duke University on the 16-18 of August so when I get back I'll only have a few days to get my things ready.
The good news is that I am going to be flying out of the South Bend airport which means 1) I don't have to get up early and drive a huge distance to get to the airport, and 2) all of my family will be able to say goodbye to me. After I leave South Bend I fly into the Dallas airport where I am going to meet other outbounds who are going to Argentina as well. From there we will all fly around 11 hours to the airport in Buenos Aires. I arrive there at 7:47 am EST, and from there I will take the bus to a different airport with one other outbound. Unfortunately, my next flight will be at 5:30 pm so I am going to have to spend all day in the airport. Today me and my family drove back from Indiana University to South Bend after dropping off my sister there.
It was a pretty long drive so I just watched a movie on the way back so I watched a movie and listened to music on the way back. It was four hours from the college to home and we left at 6:00 pm EST so we got back at around 10:00 so I wasn't able to blog until tonight. ; My host sister has just informed me that at the school where I will attend, all the men their have to keep their hair very short. This is not good.
This wouldn't be a problem except for the fact that my hair is very long and I have been growing it out for almost 3 years. It's not such a big deal because it will be totally worth it, but it will be sad to chop all my hair off. The trip to my sister's college has got me thinking about university. This is because when I get back from Argentina I will be searching for colleges to go to.
As of right now, I have no idea what I would like to study in college which will make the decision even harder for me. Hopefully I will figure out what interests me by the time I come back from exchange or during my senior year at least, if not, I will be in a pickle |
